CABRI’s Africa Debt Monitor project

Based in South Africa, the Collaborative Africa Budget Reform Initiative (CABRI), is an intergovernmental organisation that was setup in 2005 to provide a platform for peer learning and exchange for African ministries of finance, budget and planning.

From 31 October to 1 November CABRI organised a two-day workshop at Flic en Flac, Mauritius to validate data for the Africa Debt Monitor (ADM), a repository of up-to-date and comprehensive information on African central governments’ debt and debt management practices. Some 20 countries are participating in the initiative initially.

A distinguishing features of the ADM is that not only will it provide statistics on the participating countries’ debt, but it will also include information on countries’ policies, practices and institutional arrangements. A first as far as we are aware!

PDM Practice is delighted to have been associated with this innovative project through Oxford Policy Management, a UK-based consultancy, which has been commissioned by CABRI to assist with the initiative.

Visit CABRI’s web site ( for more details about the ADM which will be launched in 2019.
